Wildcats basketball team falls a game short of state championship

The Mount Si boys basketball team finishes fifth in the state tournament.

The Mount Si Wildcats fell just one game short of making it to a record-setting fourth consecutive state championship game this past weekend.

With a 51-45 semifinal loss to Olympia on March 3, the Wildcats were bounced from the state tournament. It is the first time since the 2020 season the Wildcats did not appear in the state finals.

The Wildcats ended up finishing in fifth place, losing to Federal Way, 69-63, during a game on March 4.

The semi-final loss ends an otherwise successful season. Earlier this year, the Wildcats won their fourth consecutive KingCo League title and third KingCo/WesCo District title in four years.

Including playoffs, the Wildcats finished the season with a 25-4 record.

Mount Si will graduate seven seniors on its varsity roster, including: Jake Moore, Owen Theis, Bennett Olujic, Cyrus Turley, Tyler Roach, Miles Heide and Heath Ozaeta.

Correction: A pervious version of this story said the Wildcats finished in fourth place.
