Students return to SVSD classrooms

The one exception is for online remote middle school students.

Secondary schedules went into effect on March 22 for all students in grades 6-12 in the Snoqualmie Valley School District for both in-class and online learners.

The one exception is for online remote middle school students, who will keep their same schedule. Updated schedules are available on individual school websites.

Plans to try and ensure a safe return to secondary schools have been posted on the district’s website. Informational videos are specific to each campus and include videos demonstrating the new safety rules and expectations at the school.

As part of returning students to classrooms, new school bus routes have also been released. These routes began on March 22. The new routes come with additional safety precautions for students to follow. These include a health check and attestation, which needs to be completed at home before getting on a bus; wearing masks at all times; seating siblings next to each other; and opening some windows on the buses to increase air flow (students are encouraged to dress warmly).

Adjustments to meal pick-up locations and times were also implemented on March 22. Mount Si High School will no longer offer curbside meals during the week, except for Wednesdays. The distribution site at the former Two Rivers campus will return to North Bend Elementary School, offering service every day.

Families can pick up meals to go between 11:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. There are no changes on Wednesdays, where all designated school sites will continue to provide pickup meals form 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mid-day bus runs to deliver meals to neighborhoods on Wednesdays will remain unchanged.

Free meals are available to all students this year for both online and in-person students. More information is available at the district’s website.

Additional nutrition assistance is available from the P-EBT program, as described on the district’s website:

“Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) benefits are now available to eligible students in our school district. P-EBT is money for food for meals students missed at school during the school day because of the pandemic. Benefits are available to students who are:

■ Eligible for free or reduced-price school meals AND

■ Enrolled in our school district this school year.

The Washington state Legislature first provided the P-EBT Emergency School Meals Program benefit last spring when schools closed due to the COVID pandemic, for meals missed during the 2019-20 school year. Now, they are offering the program again to income-eligible families for meals lost during this 2020-21 school year.

There is no need to apply to receive these benefits if you already qualified for the free and reduced price meal program. Each eligible student will automatically receive a P-EBT card in the mail. If your family has moved within the last two years, make sure your address on file with our district is up to date. The first payment of these benefits will arrive in the mail sometime in March.

Keep your P-EBT Card! More benefits may be added throughout the school year to students’ EBT cards if schools remain closed, or if students continue to miss meals served during school hours due to reduced in-person attendance. The first payment will include benefits for the beginning of the school year through January. Additional benefits may be issued every two months through the end of the school year, while COVID-19 continues to be a public health emergency.

Students can continue to take part in free grab-and-go meals from our school district and still get P-EBT.”
