A new kind of job fair, aimed at bringing Valley residents together to help develop a local economy, comes to Chief Kanim Middle School, Saturday, Nov. 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The New Livelihoods Job Fair (www.newlivelihoods.net) is free to the public, and the first of its kind in the area.
The NLJF is envisioned as a way to link those those in need of a job with local employers. Job-finding help services such as resume and interview coaches, will be available, along with social services for those in financial difficulty.
David Korten, author of “Agenda for a New Economy” and co-founder of “Yes!” Magazine, will be the keynote speaker. His vision for a new economy considers current economic challenges we face and how to create a tomorrow for future generations to thrive. Visit www.livingeconomiesforum.org to learn more about his work.
Free workshops focused on fostering new, self-starter earning possibilities will be offered, and a workshop facilitation method called “Open Space” will be used to identify potential next steps to creating new forms of work, new businesses, and new livelihoods in the Valley.
The event is open to all, including Valley residents who are un- or underemployed, businesses that need employees or want to collaborate with others, entrepreneurs, and venture capitalists.
A free continental breakfast will be provided, and a catered lunch is available for $10. Registered participants are eligible to win a raffled iPad. There will also be live music and activities for children. To register, visit www.newlivelihoods.net/register/register-attendee.
The event is organized by the Snoqualmie Valley Community Network and Transition Snoqualmie Valley.
