Experience the days before trucks and tractors, as Carmichael’s True Value Hardware brings back draft horse wagon rides during the 72nd annual Snoqualmie Railroad Days.

This is the seventh year that Carmichael’s owner Wendy Thomas has offered the rides, which board at her store at the corner of River Street and Falls Avenue from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Carmichael’s True Value Hardware store itself has historic roots. The building dates back a century.

“I do this because I think it’s really neat to use the horses that probably delivered to the store originally in the trade,” Thomas said.

Giving festival-goers the same flavor of days way back when, two draft horses will pull the wagon, giving adults and children a ride around the streets of Snoqualmie.

But first, the owners will introduce the horses during the festival parade. Thomas and husband Brian Woolsey will follow the entry with a wheelbarrow, on clean-up duty.

“We have free fresh fertilizer after the parade out in front of the store,” she said. “No one has taken any yet, but it’s there.”
