Conversations that Count is a town hall meeting on youth drug use, and how parents can help their children, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Church on the Ridge, 35131 S.E. Douglas St. Snoqualmie. Experienced youth addiction counselor Dave Boblitt will discuss the the dangers and consequences of drug and alcohol abuse.
Parents, youth, and anyone interested in learning more is welcome. The meeting will help to empower attendees on how to engage in conversations about substance abuse and better understand the issue, impacts and strategies for prevention in the community.
“Last year alone, we saw 27 12-to-20 year-olds in the emergency room with substance abuse, suicide or alcohol concerns,” said Snoqualmie Valley Hospital nurse and event organizer Mary Perryman RN, CEN.
Perryman, who is also the Washington Emergency Nurses Association, Injury and Prevention Chair, has received funding support from the association to put on this community conversation, in partnership with local parents.
Friends of Youth and Snoqualmie Valley Community Network will be at the meeting, with pamphlets and flyers to help answers questions on these important subjects. Refreshments will be provided.
This event is supported by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Association and Washington Emergency Nurses Association. Snoqualmie Valley Hospital, Snoqualmie Valley Community Network and Friends of Youth have endorsed the event.
