Carnation’s Fourth of July celebration will continue an almost decade long tradition in 2016 with the seventh annual three-on-three basketball tournament.

Amy Hammontree, member of the Carnation Fourth of July Committee and organizer of the basketball tournament, will be hosting the event for her third year.

Hammontree said this year’s tournament will be in a new location, Tolt-MacDonald Park, along with many of the other activities that are part of the event.

“The first year I did it, the tournament was on Bird Street behind the senior center, we moved into a parking lot with the Carnation Cafe and last year it was back on Bird Street,” she said. “Our goal is to find a place and keep it so it’s not moving every year.”

This year the tournament will be held on the newly paved parking lot area in front of the red barn at Tolt-MacDonald Park.

“That used to be a gravel lot and they just paved it and held off on painting the lines so we can spray chalk our lines on there,” Hammontree said.

This year the tournament will begin after the parade at 1 p.m. which allows time for people to see the parade and vendors before going down to the park.

Registration is currently open online for $70 per team. Registration on the day of the event will be available, but at $80 per team. The parade, which begins at 11 a.m., will also mark the end of late registrations and the remaining time after 11 a.m. will be used by tournament organizers to finalize the teams and brackets.

Teams will be broken up into elementary, middle school, high school, and adult brackets.

The groups in each category will play in a double-elimination bracket.
