Cedarcrest High School’s FFA floral team took home the gold at the FFA Washington Floral State competition March 12 in Richland.

Not only did the competitors place first as a team, all the members also ranked high individually. Kendra Mutch placed first in the competition and club vice president Alice Ish placed second. Nicole Ballard took eighth place, Zakya Misallati placed ninth, and club president Nicole Hagens placed 14th overall.

The group has practiced all year and attended numerous competitions prior to their win in Richland.

The competition involves various tests and practicums, including plant identification of over 130 species; a knowledge test, product display, advertising, and job interview exercises.

“This group of young ladies has worked so very hard to reach this goal. I am honored to be their coach and help them reach the next level.” said Sarah Thomas, FFA advisor.

The team’s win qualifies them for the national FFA competition, this October in Indianapolis.
