Red Wolves boys move to third in conference

Three wins in the past two weeks and a disappointing loss to arch-rival Archbishop Murphy have moved the Cedarcrest Red Wolves boys basketball team to third place in the KingCo 2A conference.

Most recently, the Red Wolves lost 52-66 to Archbishop Murphy, Jan. 22, but earlier in the week, they defeated Sultan, 68-58.

In the team’s Jan. 15 home game against Granite Falls, Cedarcrest added a 50-32 win over Granite Falls, led by junior Brayden Stauffer, who scored 12 points in the game including a three-pointer. Also among the top scorers were juniors Jake Kirschenmann, 11,  and Cameron Hammontree with 10. Kirschenmann also had one from the three-point line, Hammontree, two. Adding to the total were Nate McBride with five, Robert Cha and Kyle Lupo with three each, and Nik Reierson, Coulsen Darrington and Matt Sanders with two each.

On Jan. 12, the Red Wolves defeated Lakewood, 68-55 at home. Cha, a senior, scored 27 points, with four field goals. Kirschenmann also scored in the double digits with 16 points.

The Red Wolves host Kings on Friday, Jan. 29.
