Mayor seeks second term

Published 4:10 pm Thursday, October 2, 2008

North Bend Mayor Ken Hearing wants to keep his job. The first-term mayor planned to an-nounce his bid for re-election at the Feb. 6 City Council meeting for this year’s November election.

He said he wanted to make his announcement early so his constituents wouldn’t be left wondering whether he’d seek another term.

Hearing, who turns 56 this week, was elected mayor in 2003 over former City Councilmember Ed Carlson. Former mayor Joan Simpson did not seek re-election. Then, he ran a campaign advocating managed growth, managing traffic, obtaining water rights and encouraging business.

He has made headway on many of his priorities but there’s still work to be done, Hearing said.

“We haven’t completed everything we want to complete,” Hearing said.
