The Wildcats hosted the Mercer Island Islanders the night of Wednesday, Dec. 5, and Mount Si showed signs of being a strong, competitive team.

The Wildcats, down 18 points in the first half, quickly rallied to make it close at halftime, then gave it their best efforts throughout the second half. But it was Islander Hannah Lilly who got it done when she needed to. She scored 23 points, including what turned out to be the game-winning free throws, as the Islanders won 61-60.

“I think they needed a win. This is only our second game and we’re really, really young and we’re still trying to figure each other out,” said Islanders coach Jamie Prescott.

Mercer Island broke out on fire to open the game. Leading the way was junior Janelle Chow, who scored 10 of her 16 points in the game in the first stanza. Mount Si volleyball fans know Chow very well, as she has starred for the Islanders’ volleyball squad the last three years, and has shown that she is just as good in basketball as well. So good she might be able to land top college offers in either of the two. Which is Chow’s strongest, though?
