The Mount Si Wildcat girls’ basketball team gave it their best efforts last Monday night at Bellevue, but fell just short.

Seniors Joey Brazen and Jenika Swanson each scored a dozen points apiece to lead the Wolverines to a 47-42 victory. Symone Shaw scored 11 points to lead Mount Si, while freshman Jori Braun had her first 10-point effort as a high schooler. Shaw also pitched in seven rebounds.

The key to victory for Bellevue was their defense. It held Mount Si’s top offensive threat, Caitie Richards, to just five points, and Karly Thompson, who scored 15 in the Wildcats’ previous game against Liberty, was held scoreless by Bellevue. Their defense also limited Mount Si to a single three-pointer the entire game on 19 attempts, that courtesy of Shaw.

The Wildcats traveled to Interlake last Friday. The game was expected to be a good one, and it did not disappoint.

Richards scored 17 to outlast a strong effort from the upstart Saints, 63-57. Interlake was led by the amazing performances of sophomore Sarah Anderegg and senior Lauren Freidenberg. Anderegg showed why she is becoming one of the top young players in the league with a 23 point, 12 rebound double-double performance. Freidenberg was even more spectacular, with a double-double of 20 points and 21 rebounds.

“I’m really proud of my kids. They worked their tails off just like they always do and we just fell a little bit short at the end. They shot free throws tonight better than we did and that was the big difference in the game,” said Interlake coach Scott Marcum.
