Swimmers do well

Snoqualmie Valley Aquatics (SVA) swimmers took home

several medals after attending their first swim meet of the season. The meet was

held at Lakewood in late October and was hosted by the Washington

Aquatic Killer Orcas of Lakewood. There were 15 teams from around the

Pacific Northwest competing for six places in the gold, silver and bronze

divisions. Placings for the SVA’s Riptides are as follows:

Girls ages 9 and 10, in the 50-yard freestyle, silver division, first went

to, Sara Hilleary, fourth to Miranda Pratt. Bronze went to Shelby

Westerlund and Amanda Ryan. In the girls, ages 9 and 10, 50-yard backstroke, Pratt

took gold with a third-place finish. Silver went to Hilleary for her

sixth-place finish, along with teammates Ryan and Westerlund.

For the girls, ages 10 and under in the 100-yard freestyle

competition, bronze went to Hilleary for a first

bronze with a second-place finish. In the girls, ages 11 and 12, 50-yard

The team has made great improvements thanks to the work of SVA

club officers, swimmers and coaches. The team of swimmers is scoring in

the gold, silver and bronze divisions and establishing new times in new

division brackets. They plan to attend five or six meets this season, with their

next being Nov. 18 and 19 at Highline Community College. SVA

swim coaches Jessie Hogan and Mary Asman are certified members of

the USA Swimming coach’s organization and are currently undergoing

testing for their American Swimming Coaches Association (ASCA) Level

1 certification.
