Skyline defeats Red Wolves
The Skyline Spartans defeated the Cedarcrest Red Wolves “C” team
last week 20-6.
Skyline immediately went to a blitz during the Red Wolves’
offensive drives, forcing Cedarcrest to punt. On their first drive the Spartans found
the end zone after several successful runs. A 12-yard pass completed the
drive for the score.
Skyline scored again on their second drive, capping it with an
8-yard run to make it 13-0. Four plays later, after a Cedarcrest fumble on the
16-yard line, the Spartans found the end zone again, making the score 20-0.
Cedarcrest’s scoring drive came when Kolby Fletcher picked off a
pass at the Red Wolves’ 19. A combination of passes by Russell McGinnis
and runs by Matt Warner moved the ball downfield. On fourth and 7,
Jake Ballingham came in to punt for the third time of the game. The hike
was low and Ballingham had defenders in his face before he could set up to
kick. He saw an opening around the right side and got 14 yards before
being brought down, good enough for a first down.
The reverse to Warner was tried again but the defense caught him
for a 6-yard loss at midfield. A pass-interference call on the Spartans took
the ball to the 35 and gave the offense an automatic first down. A dive for
no gain to Elliott Howell and two incomplete passes made it fourth and 10
at the Skyline 35. McGinnis then threw to Gavin Harrold who caught the
ball and almost made it to the end zone. Then Howell finished the last yard
of the 81-yard drive. The extra point was no good for the final score of 20-6.
