The Mount Si girls’ soccer team dominated its regular-season

opener against the Interlake Saints last Thursday at home, winning 3-0. The

team racked up 25 shots on goal, while the Saints managed just one.

The Wildcats spent almost the entire game attacking the Interlake

goal. Saint’s goalkeeper, Larissa Grundell, was kept busy the entire evening,

making 13 saves, while her opposite, Wildcat’s goalkeeper, Kristen

Travis, managed a shutout and had one save.

Twelve minutes into the game, the Wildcats had failed to connect on

four shots. But sophomore Angela Jones, a midfielder, put one past

Grundell with 24:20 left in the first half, receiving an assist from senior

midfielder-forward Amanda Hendricks.

The shots kept coming in the first half. In the first 40 minutes,

Jones notched three shots, Hendricks had four and senior defender

Moriah Hover had three. Travis earned her one save on an Interlake breakaway,

which was quickly thwarted. The half ended with the Wildcats leading 1-0.

The second half was much of the same, with Mount Si controlling

the ball and Grundell making save after save. Six minutes into the

half, Hendricks scored an unassisted goal, knocking the ball in after it

rebounded off of an Interlake defender.

Midway through the half, Hover booted three shots in less than

two minutes, each from about 25 yards out. The final score came with 22

minutes left in the second half, when forward Nicole Howard, a junior, kicked

the ball into a group of Interlake defenders in front of the goal. The shot

rebounded and was knocked in by sophomore midfielder-forward,

Jessica Hanna, with Howard earning the assist.

Two days later, the Wildcats traveled to Duvall to take on Valley

rival; Cedarcrest. Unlike the game against Interlake, Mount Si was unable to

put the ball in the net, and the Red Wolves won 2-0.

Scoring unassisted goals for Cedarcrest were Sarah Gustat

and Abby Kwait. Goalkeeper Jenny Harder earned the shutout.
