A look at local athletes and athletics.

Binger seeing lots of playing time

Former Mount Si football standout and 1998 graduate Aaron Binger

is seeing plenty of action for Pacific Lutheran University.

Binger, a redshirt freshman for the Lutes, started with 171 yards

rushing and two scores on eight carries against California Lutheran. The two

touchdown runs were 30 and 55 yards respectively. The Lutes defeated

California Lutheran 49-7.

In his second game last weekend against Simon Fraser, Binger

added 246 total yards, with 134 coming from his receiving efforts on nine

catches. His scoring reception came on a 4-yard pass from Lutes

quarterback Chad Johnson to break a 21-all tie.

His rushing touchdown was a 12-yard burst up the middle with 4:14

remaining in the game.

The Lutes are heavily favored to repeat as national champions

in NCAA Division III.

Hole-in-one at Mount Si

Tony Hastings, of North Bend, recently made a hole-in-one at

Mount Si Golf Course. The shot was made on the eighth hole at a distance of

155 yards with a 7-iron. It was the first hole-in-one that Hastings has

ever made.

Punt Pass and kick coming to Valley.

Snoqualmie Elementary and the Snoqualmie Valley School District

are sponsoring a competitive football event for boys and girls, ages

8-15. The event is the NFL, Gatorade, Punt Pass and Kick program. It will be

held at the Mount Si High School football stadium, in Snoqualmie, on Sept.

22. Registration begins at 3:45 p.m., and the event starts at 4:15 p.m.

There are four age divisions; 8-9 years old, 10-11 years old, 12-13

years old and 14-15 years old, with boys and girls competing separately. Age is

determined as of Dec. 31, 2000, and proof of age is required.

Participates may register and compete in only one local competition and must submit

a signed parental waiver at the event.

All participants will compete against their peers in punting,

passing, and place-kicking skills. No football shoots, cleats or turf shoes are

allowed. Only gym shoes (soft sole) will be permitted.

The top scorer in each age division, both boys and girls, will

advance to the sectional competition next month.
