Red Wolves compete in state championship
A thundering herd of 3A, 2A and 4A thinclads took to Sun Willows
Golf Course on Saturday, Nov. 6, for this year’s cross country state
championships. When the dust had settled and the final times were
tallied, Cedarcrest’s James Conrick and Kelly Ramirez had finished in the top 40
of their respective events.
The two were the only Valley representatives at this year’s
season-ending meet. In the boys’ race, Conrick finished the 3.1-mile course with
a time of 16:31, good for 21st place. Ramirez recorded a 20:22, giving
her 34th place.
Peter Furia of Lakeside High School won the 3A men’s event
with a 15:51, leading his school to the team championship over Seattle
Prep, Eastmont, Cheney and Bellevue.
As expected, in the girls’ competition, Newport High School came
in first, in front of Eastmont, Mercer Island, Stanwood and Blanchet.
However, Seattle Prep’s Megan Johnson won the race with a time of
18:27. Newport’s ace, Jodee Adams-Moore, placed second by a margin of five
seconds.
