Runner’s Week
Wolves, `Cats place in KingCo Championship
A massive field of runners took to the course on an unseasonably
warm, sunny day at Lake Sammamish State Park Thursday, Oct. 21, for
the KingCo 3A cross-country championships. In and around crowds of
supporters and dive bombing flocks of Canadian geese, the Cedarcrest
men’s team and a total of nine Wildcat and Red Wolves runners qualified for
the district meet.
Cedarcrest placed third in the boys varsity championship race,
recording 95 points behind Bellevue’s 57 and Interlake’s 78. Mount Si finished
in eighth with 183 points.
The highest individual qualifier from the Valley was
Cedarcrest’s James Conrick, who finished fourth with a time of 16.21 for the 3.1
mile course. Bellevue’s Ricky Brackett won the race with a 16:06.
Coming in behind Conrick were teammate Eric Pedeferri, 17:12,
13th place; Mount Si’s Payton Thompson, 17:14,
14th; Cedarcrest’s Danny Abell, 17:25,
17th; Chris Lee, 17:26, 18th;
and Wildcat Mike Macrae, 17:51 for 25th place.
As expected, Newport High School dominated in the
women’s race, placing four runners in the top five and taking the team
championship by 41 points over runner-up Mercer Island. Newport’s Jodee
Adams-Moore finished first with a time of 18:35.
Cedarcrest placed eighth in the team competition with a score of
218, while Mount Si did not qualify. Individual runners to place in the top
30 were the Red Wolves’ Kelly Ramierez, 20:55 for
14th place; Yingxuan Law, 22:03,
25th; and Mount Si’s Ashley Weigardt, 22:16 for
28th place.
The top six teams and top 30 individuals in each category now move
on to the district championships, scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 27, at
Lower Woodland in Seattle.
