Playing the Valley Cup game for the first time on the new turf at the Cedarcrest stadium, two teams battling for pride put on an impressive show. But it was all Cody Petterson, Manin DuBois and Tommy Harding for Cedarcrest as the Lower Valley team defeated the Wildcats 19-14.

The Wildcats were inside the Cedarcrest 35 six times without scoring and three costly fumbles stunted drives. Cedarcrest, behind the passing attack of DuBois, put on an impressive running game utilizing Harding.

Defensively, Mount Si’s seniors put forth impressive efforts with both Emerson Wetherall and John Karlen recording sacks. The first scoring opportunity of the game found Mount Si deep in Cedarcrest territory. A fourth-and-sixteen pass play to Michael Dollinter had drawn a pass interference call on Cedarcrest. Runs by Brandon Sales and Michael Keller moved the ball to the 10-yard line, but a delay-of-game call on the subsequent play moved it back to the 15. After an incomplete Alex Smart pass, Tyler Austin was called in for the ‘Cats to put it through the uprights. His field-goal attempt went wide right though, giving the ball to the Red Wolves deep in their own territory.

Cedarcrest would score on their subsequent drive. DuBois put together several passes, along with runs by Kyle Eldred and Harding, to move into Mount Si territory. Then, Kingco’s leading receiver, Petterson, pulled in the ball in the Mount Si end zone for the touchdown. After an unsuccessful extra-point kick, the score was 6-0 in favor of Cedarcrest with 10:28 left in the half.
