On a night where the weather was better suited for a hockey game than a soccer game, the Mount Si Wildcats put the freeze on the Bellevue Wolverines 3-0, in the final home match of the regular season for the girls’ soccer team. Last Tuesday’s game also marked the final home match for 10 seniors, a couple of whom played key roles in the victory.

“Well, the girls played hard. They came out real strong from the get-go … they just picked it up and took it from there,” said interim Mount Si coach Glenn Cramer, filling in for Coach Bruce Caldwell who was serving a one-game suspension for picking up a red card at the Wildcats’ match last Thursday.

The play was very defensive for most of the first half with few scoring chances. The ‘Cats built up the pressure as the game progressed. The first goal was scored in the 15th minute. Junior forward Kristen Berndt took a pass from senior midfielder Angela Jones off a corner kick, and after a brief battle in front of Bellevue goalkeeper Mandy Smith, Berndt cracked the net to give the ‘Cats a 1-0 lead.

In the 35th minute Berndt struck again, this time feeding a ball to senior midfielder Kelsie Owen. Owen broke away past the Bellevue defense and fired the ball past Smith to put the ‘Cats up 2-0.
