Red Wolves drop two

It was one of those weeks for the runnin’/shootin’ Red Wolve

soccer team, with the squad dropping two contests in succession to

Sammamish and Liberty before facing off with Valley rivals Mount Si.

Tuesday night, Oct. 19, the Wolves paid a visit to Sammamish and

came out on the short end of a 4-1 score. The Totems fired off all four of

their goals before Cedarcrest could respond, at the 79- minute mark,

when Dana Elwell put one in the net off a pass from Heather Sherfey.

Two nights later the Wolves hosted Liberty and the results were

unfortunately close to the same.

The Pats scored the first time at the 28:41 mark, took another goal on

a penalty kick, and scored a third time to close out the first half.

Cedarcrest finally notched a point off a Rana Elwell pass to Sarah

Gustat at 68:41, but Liberty boomed their fourth goal barely four minutes

later. Cedarcrest’s Cassie Pepper got the last score of the night at 78-even.

The Wolves took a 7-5 record _ good for a second-place tie in the

Valley Division with Sammamish _ into Tuesday’s season finale with

Mount Si.

Mount Si splits…

The Mount Si soccer squad had a rather upbeat week, dropping a

close one to Skyline before rising up and thoroughly whomping Interlake

at home.

In Tuesday’s battle, the `Cats and Spartans fought up and down the

field for 57 minutes before Skyline’s Michelle Collado snuck one

past Heather Breitenbach. The Spartan goal was the only score of the

night but was enough to give Skyline the victory.

Thursday the Wildcats hit early and often, leaving the 0-12

Saints dazed and confused. Angela Jones started the festivities at 17-even off

an assist by Jessica Hannah. Mount Si then pumped in several more,

with Callon Gaston taking a pass from Lydia Anderson at the 55-minute

mark and Anderson herself scoring with the help of Heather Breitenbach five

minutes later. Lauren Davis had just relieved Breitenbach in the nets,

enabling the regular Mount Si goal keeper to record the assist.

And the hits just kept on coming. Mount Si notched its fourth goal

of the night at 69:00, on a Laura Fletcher pass to Anderson. Fletcher

recorded the next score on an unassisted goal at 72-even, and Mount Si closed

out the game with penalty kick by Jessii Raisio.

The slugfest set up Tuesday’s contest with Cedarcrest, with Valley

bragging rights hanging on the outcome.
