8th Grade Football
It’s Bird Bowl Time!
On Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m., the Snoqualmie and Chief
Kanim Middle School 8th grade football
teams will face off in the annual “Battle of the Birds” at Mount Si High School.
According to Snoqualmie athletic director Lynnette Wiegardt, the
big game will have a concession stand and charge admission.
The admission prices are adult and high school students, $2;
middle school without ASB, $1; elementary students, $1; and middle school
students with ASB and children under six with a paying adult, free.
There will also be half-time entertainment, including the debut of
the Snoqualmie Middle School drill team. Mark your calendars and plan on
attending.
8th Grade Volleyball
SMS wallops Mercer Island
By scores of 12-15, 15-8 and 15-11, the Lady Eagles
8th grade volleyball squad defeated Mercer
Island Monday, Oct. 18, in a match described as a “total team effort…everyone
contributed.”
Amy Keogh led the way in the first two games as captain, while
Jen Newman came off the bench to provide a defensive spark. Shaleia
Rich played tall at the net and Kristen Berndt, Kelly Fletcher and
Robin Trombley used their athleticism to spike the ball over the net.
Jaclyn Boals packed a wallop with her serve and eventually hit the game
winner, as the Lady Eagles ran their record to 6-1.
Lady Hawks upend Tolt
Wednesday night, Oct. 20, the Chief Kanim
8th grade varsity volleyball team took three from Tolt,
although the final match was a nail-biter. The Lady Hawks ultimately
prevailed by scores of 15-5, 15-6 and 15-13.
Natalie Sinclair, Kellie Adams, Erin Hart, Rosary Mangano
and Kristina Turple all were strong in serving to lead the Hawks to victory,
while Hart, Sinclair and Lindsey Logic were awesome on the attack.
Stacy Courtwright, Alyse Douglas, Morgan Durman, Christie Leatiota,
Angela Lynch and Ryanne Rothenberg all helped contribute to the awesome
win, gaining accolades from Coach Kjorsvik.
7th Grade Volleyball
Chief Kanim netters pummel Maywood, Tolt
The Lady Hawks walked away with a victory Monday, Oct. 18,
in their match with Maywood Middle School. The final scores were
13-15, 15-9 and 15-8.
Brittany Heaps took control of her powerful serve, giving CKMS
seven points in the final game. Michelle Avery and Lindsey Austin
demonstrated calm, controlled serving, also adding seven points each to the team.
Outstanding defensive players were Alisha Galaencu and Lindsey Beach.
Due to their clear communication, their focused attention and their
skilled playing, it was no surprise they came away with the win.
Wednesday night the 7th grade varsity swept Tolt by scores of 15-1,
15-11 and 15-3. The Lady Hawks were completely in charge of their
game, demonstrating excellent skills both offensively and defensively.
Dulcie McHugh continued to lead the team in serving by adding
twelve points over the three games, while Austin consistently added points
with her solid serving. A strong defensive team led by Heaps in return hits
supported the servers. Emilie Aaltonen provided a show by saving
several balls and bringing them back into play. Lauren Sinclair had some fine
plays at the net lopping the ball over to the surprised Tolt team.
Lady Eagles thump Mercer Island
Monday, Oct. 18, the SMS 7th grade varsity volleyball team
improved their record to 6-1 by downing Mercer Island 15-1, 15-2 and
15-10. The Lady Eagles’ Sam Baldwin was the top offensive scorer of
the game.
Two nights later blood, sweat and tears weren’t enough and _ after
three hard-fought games _ the Lady Eagle
7th graders lost to undefeated Pine Lake (and their low ceiling) by
scores of 10-15, 15-9 and 10-15.
However, coach Hope Nichols singled out Baldwin,
Whitney Chelgren, Kayla Jayne, Mallory Horsch, Whitney Beyerlin,
Rashell Kamienski and Keera Kanuha for praise, adding, “hold your heads
high! You played well, be proud, and we’ll get them next year!”
