Red Wolves win one, drop one

The Bellevue Wolverines paid a visit to Howard Miller Stadium

Tuesday night, Oct. 5, and gave the Cedarcrest soccer squad a major

time of it. Red Wolf Goalies Erica Burch and Jenny Harder ended up

earning their keep, as the visitors spent a surprising amount of time at

the Cedarcrest end of the field.

However, at the seven-minute mark of overtime, Bellevue scored

on itself, giving the Wolves the 1-0 victory and a 6-1 record. As the

saying goes, “A win is a win.”

The local version of the “Clash of Titans” came two nights later,

when the Wolves faced off against 6-1 Newport. The 6-1, Sky

Division-leading Knights were coming off their

first hiccup of the season, a 2-0 loss to Liberty, and they were looking to take

it out on someone.

They succeeded. Newport’s Tiffany Walker did most of the

damage, scoring two goals enroute to her team’s 4-0 victory over the

Red Wolves. The loss put Cedarcrest at 6-1 for the season, trailing Liberty in

the Valley Division of KingCo 3A but still comfortably ahead of Sammamish.

Mount Si shut out by Issaquah, Bellevue

The Wildcat soccer team had a week of it, dropping games to the

Indians and Wolverines by identical 2-0 scores.

Tuesday evening, Oct. 6, the `Cats hosted their opposite numbers

from Issaquah. The contest was a long and drawn out defensive fight, with

the Islanders scoring their first goal at the 1:46 mark and not scoring again

until 72:24. Unfortunately, Mount Si wasn’t able to generate an offense.

Thursday evening Mount Si took a short road trip east for a game

with 5-2 Bellevue. The Wolverines prevailed in the battle of ferocious

woodland critters, downing the Wildcats by a score of 2-0. Mount Si’s

Heather Breitenbach did the entire game in goal.

With a 1-7 record in league play, the `Cats hosted Sammamish on

Tuesday night. They travel to Liberty on Thursday to face the Valley

Division-leading Pats.
