WDFW seeks advisory committee candidates for the Snoqualmie Wildlife Area

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is seeking candidates to serve on a committee that advises the department on management of the Snoqualmie Wildlife Area.

The department is looking specifically for candidates who represent interests of the bird-dog training and sportsman communities, wildlife watchers, or agriculture. Current members of the committee represent a variety of interests, including conservation, hunting, and salmon recovery, said Brian Boehm, Snoqualmie Wildlife Area manager.

The WDFW manages the 2,774-acre wildlife area comprised of six units in King and Snohomish counties. The department primarily manages the area to preserve and enhance wildlife and their habitats, and to provide opportunities for wildlife-related recreational opportunities.

“We would like to expand participation in our advisory group to reflect the different uses the Snoqualmie area supports,” Boehm said.

The two new members would be expected to attend the next advisory committee meeting, which is planned for this fall. The advisory group typically meets up to four times per year. More information about the committee is available at http://wdfw.wa.gov/about/advisory/swa-waac.

The advisory committee will be involved in updating the management plan for the wildlife area, one of 33 wildlife areas across the state. The planning sequence for the Snoqualmie Wildlife Area is under development.

Applicants should submit a cover letter with contact information, a description of the applicant’s familiarity with the wildlife area and interest in participating in the advisory group, experience in the advisory group processes and in collaborating with people who have different values, and a summary of experience with wildlife areas and land management issues.

Submit applications by 5 p.m., Sept. 13; send them to WDFW Region 4 Headquarters, Attn: Snoqualmie WAAC Recruitment, 16018 Mill Creek Boulevard, Mill Creek, WA 98012-1541; or email to TeamMillCreek@dfw.wa.gov with the subject line “Snoqualmie WAAC Recruitment”
