The Entertainment Industry Foundation announced Two Rivers School in North Bend as one of the winners of the Think It Up Innovation Awards. The award recognizes students and teachers for innovation in public education.
Two Rivers School was chosen for the students’ work in creating a greenhouse to teach lessons about nutrition, healthy eating and how to prepare a nutritious meal on a budget.
By using the greenhouse, the students of Two Rivers have grown and cooked their own food from the garden in order to donate to homeless shelters and have developed a community around preparing monthly school lunches for the students.
The North Bend School among seven other schools across the U.S. to receive this recognition and will receive $5,000 in donorschoose.org funding credits to use to further their work in project development.
“These teams remind us what we can accomplish when we support and celebrate the tremendous effort of America’s students and teachers,” said Lisa Paulsen, CEO and President of the Entertainment Industry Foundation.
“There’s no spotlight bright enough for the inventive, inspiring work they do every day.”
The winning schools were chosen by the Education Advisory Committee which is made up of representatives from The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, ExxonMobil, Ashoka’s Start Empathy Initiative, DonorsChoose.org, EL Education, Learning Heroes and America Achieves.
