Tickets will be served if left turns persist

North Bend police warn drivers leaving the city’s post office to abide by a new sign — or face the consequences.

A newly posted placard shows that drivers need to make a right turn only on to North Bend Way. Drivers who plan to go west should proceed east first, go through the roundabout, then head west.

The change was made to help make the busy stretch of highway in front of the post office and North Bend QFC less dangerous. Already, traffic is approaching from as many as five directions.

“We want to make sure everyone is safe,” said Mark Toner, North Bend Chief of Police. “With the amount of traffic over there, we’re trying to watch all ways.”

The sign was installed in the past month, and police have noticed many drivers who still make a forbidden left turn.

No citations have been given out yet, but if violations persist, Toner warns that tickets will soon follow.

The cost of an illegal left: A $124 fine.
