The filing period for candidates who want to run for office ended Friday, May 20. Among the offices on the ballot are local Senators and Representatives to the state and U.S. Legislature. Many incumbents will see challengers this year.
In the 5th District of the state Senate, incumbent Mark Mullet will face challenger Chad Magendanz. Currently a 5th District Representative, Position 2, Magendanz announced in 2015 that he would seek the 5th District Senate seat in the November election.
By running for Senate, Magendanz has created a vacancy for his House seat. Three people have filed for the seat, two of them Democrats, so voters will have a choice to make in the August primary. Matt Larson of Snoqualmie and Darcy Burner of Carnation will be on the primary ballot. One will advance to the general election, to face challenger Paul Graves of Fall City.
Also in the 5th District House of Representatives, Position 1 incumbent Jay Rodne, a Republican, has filed for re-election. He will be challenged by Democrat Jason Ritchie. Another challenger, Arien Huckeba, filed last week for the office but later withdrew from the race.
For the 45th District Representative, Position 1, incumbent Roger Goodman will be challenged by Ramiro Valderrama. Incumbent Larry Springer in Position 2 is unopposed.
In the 1st U.S. Congressional District House of Representatives, incumbent Suzan DelBene faces several challengers, Robert J. Sutherland, Alex Storms, Scott Stafne and John Orlinski. Rep. Dave Reichert, 8th District, has filed for re-election, with opposition from Keith Arnold, Santiago Ramos, Tony Ventrella, Margaret M. Walsh and Alida Skold.
The Washington state general election primary is Tuesday, Aug. 2. The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 8.
