Snoqualmie Police Department’s interim Police Chief Jim Schaffer was officially sworn in on Monday, June 27, at the Snoqualmie City Council meeting.

After taking his oath of office, Schaffer thanked the city for inviting him back into the position.

“I appreciate the opportunity to come back and do whatever I can for the city,” Schaffer said. “I clearly have a connection here and it doesn’t go away with retirement obviously, even though my wife thought it would. She is 100 percent on board with helping out while we obtain a new permanent police chief and I look forward to working with you all, and some of you again.”

Snoqualmie Councilmember Charles Peterson thanked Schaffer and his wife, Lisa, for deciding to return to work in the city after retiring in 2012.

“I think I’ve known Chief Schaffer longer than everybody here, perhaps. Thank Lisa for saying you can come back Jim, and I think you are the right person to lead this city and North Bend until we get a full acting chief of police. I appreciate it,” Peterson said.

Schaffer started as the interim chief on June 16 and will remain in the position until the city is able to hire a permanent chief. The city expects the hiring process to take from four to six months.
