Carnation-Duvall Citizen Corps Council, in cooperation with the Washington Health Support Team, invites citizens to a free seminar series, “Disaster Mental Health – Building a Community Mental Health Support Network.”
The three-part series will train non-professionals to provide ongoing psycho social support services after a disaster.
Volunteers will review how to assist health support team leaders in managing disaster-related traumatic stress in their communities. Post-disaster stress affects nearly everyone to some degree.
The series will be presented in three two-hour installments, 7 to 9 p.m. April 18, April 25 and May 2. All three seminars will be held in the Multipurpose Room at Riverview School District, 15510 1st Ave. N.E, Duvall.
The first installment will be an introduction to the health support team and its role during a disaster. It will also cover disaster mental health skills and techniques that volunteers may utilize to deliver initial aid to disaster survivors.
The second seminar will include traumatic psychological identification skills and the third will offer demonstrations and hands-on practice and discuss an effective referral process. Each of the seminars will build on information from previous weeks.
To register visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/disaster-response-building-a-community-based-mental-health-network-tickets-24109757935?aff=ebrowse.
