There’s a new volunteer opportunity for those who love the great outdoors and want to meet others who feel the same.
The Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust is looking for volunteers for its Winter 2025-26 Trailhead Ambassador Program, which runs through early March. Volunteer shifts run in three-hour blocks, and volunteers are asked to complete a minimum of two shifts per season.
Volunteers will be stationed at popular Sno-Parks like Gold Creek, Crystal Springs and Cabin Creek on Saturday mornings. They will welcome and guide visitors, as well as share stewardship practices safety information. They will also support land managers, collect data and help sell Sno-Park passes.
No experience is required. All volunteers will complete a one-hour online training before their first shift. Training covers program basics, relevant site details, safety protocols and visitor engagement approaches.
The ambassador program is a new partnership between the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust and the Washington State Parks Winter Recreation Program.
Volunteers are becoming an increasingly integral part of land management, according to an announcement from Mountains to Sound.
“With increasing recreational use of public lands and shrinking land manager capacity, volunteer Trailhead Ambassadors provide crucial support,” the news release said. “Their presence helps visitors choose appropriate trails, follow etiquette and enjoy the outdoors responsibly. In turn, ambassadors support sustainable recreation, help protect natural resources and foster community stewardship of public lands.”
