This week includes lots of opportunities to learn something new.

Jan. 9

Sno-Valley Senior Center blood drive, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.: While many resolutions fade, donating blood is a simple, achievable goal that truly matters. Visit the Sno-Valley Senior Center in Carnation for a blood drive with Bloodworks Northwest. Those interested should book their appointment ahead of time at bloodworksnw.org/giveblood.

Jan. 10

Snoqualmie Falls photography workshop, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.: Seattle photographer Lisa Mize will teach long exposure photography in person at Snoqualmie Falls. The class will cover camera settings, shutter speeds, framing and more for great water photos. Registration for the class is $105 and includes a one-hour follow-up Zoom call. SnoValley Chamber Candidate Academy, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.: The SnoValley Chamber of Commerce is hosting its Candidate Academy, a nonpartisan workshop for community members who are interested in running for local office or serving in an appointed position. The academy will cover how to decide to run for office; the realities of campaigning; the differences between local, county and state positions; and building a network of support and understanding your community’s needs. Attendees will hear directly from current and former elected officials, campaign professionals and community advocates. There will be two sessions, broken up by a provided lunch. Flood relief fundraiser, 4-6 p.m.: Join the Carnation Chamber of Commerce at Remlinger Farms for a Flood Relief Fundraiser to benefit local farms. The evening will include a spaghetti dinner, raffle and silent auction. Attendance is free, but there is a suggested donation of $15 for adults and $10 for kids and seniors. Flood fundraising concert, 6-10 p.m.: Morgan Henley Presents is hosting an evening of music to benefit flood victims in the Duvall area. The concert, in the Carnation Farms Hippodrome, will include Long and Strange, Austin Jenckes and VibeMind. All proceeds go to the Rotary Club of Duvall to be distributed to flood victims. Food and drink will be available for purchase at the event. Tickets are $40 and available at duvallfloodbenefit.square.site.

Jan. 11

Dumpling making class, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: The Center for Creativity in North Bend is hosting a dumpling making class. Attendees will make the dumpling dough, choose a filling to stuff the dumplings with and seal them, as well as make a dipping sauce. Dumplings will be taken home ready to cook. All materials are provided. Registration is $60 and can be done at northbendartandindustry.org/all.

Avalanche Awareness Night, 7 p.m.: Join Pro Guiding Service for a free, one-hour session on avalanche safety. Stick around after the presentation for trivia and a raffle with prizes. Located at 112 W. 2nd St., North Bend.

Jan. 14

Treehouse class with Pete Nelson, 6-7:30 p.m.: The Duvall Library, 15508 Main St. NE, is hosting Pete Nelson, owner of Nelson Treehouse and Treehouse Point, to talk about the origins of treehouses and his love for the trees. Class is geared toward adults.

Jan. 15

Wit and Wine at Miller’s, 7 p.m.: Visit Miller’s the third Thursday of every month for an evening of wine and improv comedy, presented by the Duvall Improv Social Club. All ages welcome. Beer, wine and non-alcoholic drinks available for purchase. Food can be brought in from area restaurants. Jan. 16

Dry January Quitters Party, 3 p.m.: Say an early goodbye to “dry January” at Pearl and Stone Wine Co. with the release of the winery’s 2018 Library Wine and an evening of live music. Located at 201 Main Ave. N. Visit pearlandstonewine.com.
