Artists invited to register now for ninth annual Plein Air Paint Out, Aug. 19 in Snoqualmie

The Snoqualmie Arts Commission is looking for participants for the 9th annual Snoqualmie Plein Air Paint Out occurring from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, during the Railroad Days festival in Historic Downtown Snoqualmie.

All artists must check-in on the day of the event at the Railroad Park Gazebo, 7971 Railroad Ave SE before beginning their work. Blank watercolor paper or blank canvas must be stamped upon check-in to qualify. Competing works must be started the day of the event, and completed by 3 p.m.

Artists of all skill levels and mediums are invited to paint “en plein air,” or in the open air in this event, which will include an awards ceremony at 3 p.m. to announce first, second and third-place winners. The free reception is open to the public at the Black Dog Arts Café, 8062 Railroad Ave SE.

The first-place winner of the event will have his or her winning work featured on the 2018 Plein Air Paint Out poster; the city of Snoqualmie may also opt to purchase the winning piece. Second and third-place winners will receive gift certificates to Daniel Smith Art Supplies.

Posters of past years’ winning works will also be available for purchase at the Railroad Park Gazebo at 7971 Railroad Ave SE.

Artists may register in advance or on the day of the event. A registration form is available on the city of Snoqualmie website at bit.ly/SnoqPleinAir.

Event registration is free. No business license is needed and no commissions will be taken from any paintings sold during the event. Painters must be actively working on paintings on-site.

Kids are invited to participate in a free art event called the Kids’ Paint Junction, the same day. Free art materials will be available for them to create their own masterpieces. Check in with the Snoqualmie Arts Commission in the gazebo and they’ll direct you to the Junction!
