Eagles lose battle
In a football game to crown the Seamount League Champions, it came down to two undefeated Valley teams battling for the league title. Snoqualmie, with a 4-0-1 record, visited Chief Kanim with their unblemished record of 5-0.
Both teams came out tackling and blocking hard, proving they deserved to be playing for the championship. Snoqualmie played an inspired first quarter, and behind the strong inside tackling of Sean Snead, Ryan Ransavage and Michael Davenport, the Eagles plugged the inside threat while Dane Smith, Jason Alexander and Russell Boulanger provided outside containment with some pad-popping hits, stopping the Hawks on their initial drives.
The Eagles ran behind a strong offensive line surge with Snead up the middle and Smith rushing off tackle for a touchdown and an early 8-0 lead. The Hawks rallied back with two impressive scores of their own to take a 16-8 lead. The Hawks used a stifling defense in the second half, denying the Eagles any second-half momentum, which resulted in the Eagle’s only loss of the season, 22-8.
Coaches Hillard and Manjarrez are proud of the players’ efforts throughout the season and the Eagles’ second-place finish in the league.
Individual team awards included Michael Davenport for Most Inspirational Player, and Dane Smith for Best Offensive Player,
