Frank Cernick, principal at North Bend Elementary School for the past 26 years, will retire in December. Because School District 410 plans to “rotate” most of its principals for the next school year, Cernick will actually retire from the post at Fall City Elementary School. Don McConkey, who will serve as Cernick’s administrative assistant at Fall City, has been chosen as his replacement for the position.

The proponents of the “Villages at North Bend” development, planned for 974 acres south of the city of North Bend, know that potential flooding impacts are a concern to many residents. Last week, a stormwater management plan for the proposal was forwarded to the city council’s public works committee for review. Formerly know as the “Peterson project,” Villages at North Bend would include 2,950 residential units, plus a 43-acre business park, a golf course, a 20-acre school site and a trail system.

The year 1965 was the busiest year in the history of the Sno-Valley District Justice Court. A compilation of cases filed and tried during 1965 reveals that last year exceeded 1963, the second most active year, by 321 cases filed and 67 cases tried. A total of 3703 cases were filed in the court during 1965 with 666 coming to trial. Judge Richard M. Holt said $60,030 was remitted to King County, $7,337 to the town of North Bend and $457 to the town of Carnation during 1965.

Hadley Rogers of North Bend, past president of the Sno-Valley Jaycees, won election to the office of State Vice President for District 6 at the district meeting hosted by the local club at the Moose Hall in North Bend.
