A three-year fundraising effort for the Valley-wide monument to those killed in military service has accumulated enough money for the construction to begin at last.
“We have a little over $35,000 in our veterans memorial account,” said Chris Charier, chairperson of the Snoqualmie Valley Veteran’s Memorial committee, which broke ground Friday, June 1. “Marty Kester thinks it will be less than that.”
Kester of Mr. K’s Construction, planned to start working on the site, next to the Legion Post on River Street in Snoqualmie, this week, and plans to have it ready in time for a Veterans Day dedication.
Many organizations, including Kester’s, have made significant in-kind donations to the project, and fund-raising bricks sold for $100 each, have also contributed. To date, more than 200 bricks have been sold.
Chartier said “The generosity and support from the community, and the donations, have been amazing.”
