Firefighters support local graduates
Eastside Fire & Rescue and Firefighters Local 2878 teamed up
this year to provide scholarships for their local schools. The department
covers an estimated 214-square mile area with three high schools within the
service area and three more in neighboring jurisdictions.
Samuel McBee of Mount Si High and Sarah Berdan of Cedarcrest
High were the Valley students to receive the award.
The $500 scholarships were available to students who plan to attend
a college, university or trade school. Chief officers of Eastside Fire &
Rescue presented the scholarships to the recipients.
Whitman announces graduates
Wildcat alumni Maja Palmer was among the 320 students who
received a bachelor’s degree from Whitman College in Walla Walla this spring.
She received a bachelor’s degree in Asian studies and graduated cum laude in
her Asian studies major.
Palmer graduated from Mount Si High in 1996 and is the daughter
of David and Nan Palmer of Redmond.
Palmer also received the $1,500 Connie Jill Carlstrom Endowed
Award for Japanese studies. She plans to continue her Japanese studies in a
master’s degree program at the University of Southern California.
Valley trio graduates from WWU
Western Washington University recently released the names of
460 graduates who earned their bachelor’s degrees and were awarded
diplomas at the conclusion of the winter quarter 2000.
Amanda Carole Moklbust, of Carnation; Suanne Marie Carlson, of
Fall City; and Rebecca S. Christopherson, of Snoqualmie, were among
those honored.
