Nonprofits dealing with nonfunding

SNOQUALMIE VALLEY – The Sno-Valley Senior Center is more than just a neatly tended two-story building in downtown Carnation. It is a gathering place – a central location where residents come to swap stories, eat together, take art classes or have their aches massaged away on “Salon Day.”

The center, through its Adult Day Health Program, provides a needed respite for families taking care of seniors who may suffer from Alzheimer’s or dementia or are recovering from a stroke. There, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, they can receive recreational and occupational therapy, health screening and case management services.

However, the program, and the senior center itself, are threatened. Reductions in the amount of money it receives could force cutbacks to the Adult Day Health Program and the hours the center is open, shutting its doors to local seniors.
