Halloween is an exciting, fun-filled time for young people.

Unfortunately, it can also be a time for criminal activity and accidents.

The Snoqualmie Department of Public Safety advises that the

following safety tips for parents, children, pet owners and drivers can help

make Halloween safe and fun.

Adults:

– Welcome trick-or-treaters with your exterior light(s) on

– Remove any tripping hazards

– Candelit jack-o-lanterns should be kept clear of doorsteps

– Consider using flashlights instead of candles to light

jack-o-lanterns

Motorists:

– Exercise extreme caution _ youngster’s vision may be impaired

by masks

– Avoid unnecessary vehicle travel

– Look before you back up. Watch for small children.

Children/parents:

– Never trick-or-treat alone

– Carry a flashlight and enough change to call home if necessary

– Wear bright costumes

– Cross streets at the corners _ never between parked cars

– Inspect all treats for both intentional or unintentional hazards.

Discard all unwrapped treats

– Teach the difference between tricks and vandalism

Pet owners:

– Don’t leave your pet out in the yard

– Candy is not for pets. Chocolate is toxic to most animals

– Be sure pets have ID’s on in case they stray from home

– Keep pets away from the door when trick-or-treaters arrive

The members of the Department of Public Safety hope these tips

will help you and your families have a safe and happy Halloween.
