Out of the Past: Sullivan named PTSA’s Outstanding Volunteer of the Year; Harding’s dry goods and clothing store in Snoqualmie is sold

Thursday, June 4, 1992

• Parent Teacher Student Association’s Kristy Sullivan was awarded the region’s Outstanding Volunteer of the Year award at Issaquah’s Sunset Elementary School June 3. In addition to Sullivan’s award, the Fall City PTSA also received a certificate of excellence, given to programs which have compiled information and charted the progress made within the school system. The PTSA Region 2 includes Issaquah, Bellevue, Lake Washington, Mercer Island, Snoqualmie Valley and Riverview School Districts.

• Thieves broke into the Snoqualmie Post Office last weekend, ransacking offices and mailboxes and forcing the facility’s closure Monday as postal inspectors and Snoqualmie Police scanned the building for evidence. The burglar, or burglars, entered the post office, located at 114 Olmstead, by cutting out a window in front of the building some time between 1 p.m. Saturday, June 6 and 3 a.m. Monday, June 8, police said.

Thursday, June 8, 1967

• Harding’s Store in Snoqualmie, owned by the Harding family 46 years, has been sold to Snoqualmie businessmen Wayne Gaub and Tom Thoreson, it was announced this week. Thoreson said the store would continue to carry the “Harding’s” name for now and will continue in the clothing and dry goods business. The store has been operated by Hugh and Doris Harding for the past 20 years and Mrs. Harding said this week, “I’ll still be around the store for a while.”

• One hundred and two graduating seniors received diplomas from Robert Innes, chairman of the Snoqualmie Valley School District 410 Board of Education, at ceremonies at Mount Si High School Monday night. Jim Knowles honor student, ASB president and athlete, won the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award.
