Shaun Tubbs, wanted by King County authorities on nine felony warrants for a string of crimes including unlawful possession of a firearm vehicle theft, and eluding police, was arrested Monday, June 27, in Covington. The 28 year-old man who’d been the subject of a police search in North Bend June 14, was captured after Sheriff’s deputies received a tip that he was in a home in Covington.

According to the tip, Tubbs had ridden a stolen motorcycle to the house. Detectives had been searching for Tubbs for over two months for a string of felony crimes that included numerous vehicle thefts, unlawful possession of a firearm and eluding police.

Covington Police and King County Sheriff deputies surrounded the house in the 27700 block of 168 Ave SE around 8:30 a.m. Monday. Police had been told that Tubbs said he wouldn’t be taken alive.

They found Tubbs hiding in the garage and when police ordered to come out with his hands up, he refused. With his hands in his jacket pockets, concealing a handgun, Tubbs refused to come out and reportedly told deputies “you’re going to have to kill me.”

It took three blasts from a Tazer to successfully subdue Tubbs. His protective jacket had prevented the probes in the first two shots from making solid contact. After the third, successful shock, Tubbs removed the gun from his pocket and dropped it on the ground.

He was taken into custody and booked into the King County Jail for outstanding warrants, as well as investigation of possession of the stolen motorcycle.
