Carnation teen competes in National Geographic State Bee, Woodinville boy takes state title

Crockett Stultz, a seventh grade student at Tolt Middle School in Carnation, advanced to the 2016 National Geographic State Bee competition, held Friday, April 1, at Pacific Lutheran University.

The state bees are the second level of the annual National Geographic Bee.

Satvik Kabbur, a fourth grade student at Grade Bear Creek Elementary School in Woodinville, was named the winner of the bee, prevailing over 99 other students from around the state.

Kabbur will receive $100, the National Geographic book “The National Parks: An Illustrated History” and a medal. He will represent Washington State in the National Geographic Bee Championship at National Geographic Society headquarters, May 22 to 25 in Washington, D.C.

Journalist and humorist Mo Rocca will moderate the final round of competition. The national champion will receive a $50,000 scholarship and lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society. The National Geographic Bee is a program of the National Geographic Society.
