Farm to Food Bank: Valley harvest donation program helping fight hunger

Sno-Valley Harvest is a new program in the Snoqualmie Valley that is working to increase fresh food in local food banks by collecting surplus food.

Local farmers who are interested in donating their extra food can contact Harper, who will work with the unique needs of each farm to schedule, organize and supervise the gleaning event. Farms have been generous in the past in giving to Hopelink and other food banks in the area, but the new gleaning program will provide the missing labor and transportation to take full advantage of surplus food.

Volunteers with the program will have the opportunity to work on a farm while helping food banks provide local families with fresh and healthy food. Those interested in volunteering as harvesters should contact the Lisa Harper at 206.579.6886.
