WASL week begins

Published 9:45 am Thursday, October 2, 2008

This week, 10th-grade students at Mount Si High School begin taking the second version of the Washington Assessment of Student Learning, or WASL, that counts toward graduation.

Writing assessments began Tuesday for sophomores, as well as some juniors at Mount Si who didn’t pass that section of the test in 2006.

The current crop of sophomores is the second class in Washington that must pass the WASL to graduate.

For all students, though, the regular high-school routine and curriculum stop for nine days while the assessment takes place.

“The whole school goes into WASL mode,” said Mount Si test coordinator Beth Castle. “We have a completely different schedule.”
