Wildcats lose to Sammamish in overtime

Mount Si’s varsity soccer team fell short in overtime last week, losing to Sammamish 2-1.

Scoring the Wildcats only goal was Ariel Waddel with an assist from Erin Vassar at the 34-minute mark. Sammamish scored first in the game, then finally recorded the winning goal at the 87-minute mark.


Wildcat volleyball drops game to MI

The Mount Si varsity volleyball team fell to Mercer Island in three sets last week, 15-7, 15-13 and 15-13.

Stephanie Sales led the effort with 12 kills, one ace, five blocks and 15 digs; Maggie Olson had six kills and one dig; Alison Neuenschwander had two kills and 13 digs; Lyndsey Hyatt had five kills, one block and 15 digs; Jaymee Horstman had six kills, two assists, two asces and three digs; Kristen Travis had three kills, 31 assists, two aces, two blocks and four digs.


Sammamish defeats cats

Led by Ben DeBoer and Brandon Bumpus in singles play, the Mount Si Wildcats tennis team fell to Sammamish last week 7-2.

DeBoer won his singles match, defeating the Totems’ Jason Ghaffari 1-6, 6-4, 6-4. Bumpus defeated Jason Askew 6-4 and 6-2.


‘Cats fall to Mercer Island

The Mount Si varsity girls’ soccer team started off strong in its against against Mercer Island last week, managing to tie the score early, but the Islanders answered in the second half with three goals to win 4-1.

Scoring Mount Si’s goal was Ariel Waddel at the 47-minute mark. Goal keepers for the Wildcats were Christine Bauman and Kristine Travis.


‘Cats place runner

The Mount Si boys’ cross-country team traved to Island Crest Park last week to compete against Mercer Island and Cedarcrest. They came in third with a team score of 75 behind Cedarcrest’s 53 and Mercer Island’s 15.

Placing for the Wildcats was Ryan Magnussen, who took ninth with a time of 17:51.


‘C’ team still undefeated

The Mount Si girls “C” soccer team continued its undefeated season last week as it hosted the Cedarcrest Red Wolves, sending their Lower Valley rivals home with a 2-0 loss.

Amy Trenkamp, and Kelsey Garnder both scored goals for the Wildcats in the first half. Tough defense stopped the Wolves and allowed no goals. Keepers Nicole Campbell and Brittany Crowe are credited with the shutout.


Sammamish tops ‘Cats

Mount Si’s JV soccer team fell to the Totems last week in an intense game of soccer, losing 2-1. Both the offensive and defensive lines worked the ball well. Piper Sherbon scored with an assist from Angie Boyd.


Cedarcrest falls to Islanders

The Red Wolves golf team dropped a match last week to the Islanders, 180 to 199. Playing at Tall Chief in Fall City, Wes Stubbs scored a 39 for the Red Wolves. Chris Potter and Joseph Sacknitz also scored a 39. Walther Robinson had a 40 and Ryan Deason a 42.


Bellevue thumps Red Wolves

The Cedarcrest Red Wolves fell to Newport in girls’ varsity soccer action last week, 4-1.

The Wolverines scored goals at the 33-, 62-, 66- and 80-minute marks. Cedarcrest’s only goal came at the 52-minute mark by Kim Drew. The Red Wolves are 1-7 in league play.


Volleyball team drops Skyline

The Red Wolves volleyball team moved to 3-6 for the season after defeating Skyline in four sets last week, 12-15, 15-5, 15-9 and 15-12.

Stephanie Hern led the effort with two aces, 22 assists, six kills and three digs; Christa Swanlund had eight kills and nine blocks; Maile Marshall had two aces, five kills, one block and 15 digs; Kara Lawson had five kills, three blocks and eight digs; Megan Townsend had four kills and nine digs; and Stephanie Ayers had two aces and 11 digs.


Skyline drops Red Wolves

Skyline held on to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Sara Adamo in the first minute to win over the Red Wolves in girls’ varsity soccer action last week. The loss moved the Red Wolves to 1-8 for the season.


Red Wolves loses in three sets

The Cedarcrest Red Wolves varsity volleyball team fell in three sets last week to the Issaquah Indians, 15-10, 15-4 and 15-10.

Megan Townsend led the effort for the Red Wolves with one ace, six kills, one block and eight digs; Stephanie Hern had one ace, 14 assists and one kill; Kara Lawson had one assist, six kills and five digs; Maile Marshall had two aces, two kills and six digs; Stephanie Ayers had one ace and three digs; and Christa Swanlund had one kill and one block.

The team’s record stands at 3-8, third in the Valley Division.


Cedarcrest boys do well

The Red Wolves boys’ cross-country team had a strong outing last week at a three-team meet, taking second behind Mercer Island (15) and in front of Mount Si (75) with a score of 53.

Leading the effort for the Red Wolves was Brian Lee, who took seventh with a time of 17:45. Teammate Ian Wright took 10th with a time of 17:53.


Ramirez places

Cedarcrest’s Kelly Ramirez took fourth in last week’s girls’ cross-country meet at Island Crest Park. She was the only Red Wolf to place in the top 10 with a time of 20:20.


Cedarcrest tops Interlake

The Red Wolves varsity football moved to fourth in the KingCo Conference 3A standings at 3 wins and 3 losses with a win over 0-6 Interlake last week, 28-20.

Aaron O’Neal scored on a 75-yard run to begin the game and went on to dominate the contest offensively. He rushed for 239 yards on 25 carries.

Interlake attempted a comeback but it wasn’t enough. Cedarcrest quarterback Sean McDonald scored on a one-yard run, Tommy Harding also had a 17-yard run.
