Schools closed by bus vandalism

School was canceled Monday, Oct. 22, because of vandalism to Snoqualmie Valley School District busses.

“It’s just disappointing,” said Joel Aune, school district superintendent, citing the inconvenience to parents and students. The missed day will be made up June 18, he said.

Sometime over the weekend a vandal or vandals cut wires on 35 of the district’s 49 busses – 34 large busses and one of 11 small busses, said James Garhart, school district transportation supervisor. The damage disabled flashing red lights on the stop signs, radios and public address systems in the busses, Garhart said.

“They knew exactly what they were doing,” Aune said.
