Raines to reign in Valley

Published 9:43 am Thursday, October 2, 2008

Ella Raines, born and raised in the Snoqualmie Valley, rose to fame in the “Golden Era of Hollywood.” She starred in a string of first-run movies in the 1940s and in a television series during the early 1950s. Five of her films will be shown in a three-day festival scheduled for June 22, 23 and 24. The event was planned to recognize a “hometown girl” and to focus on the Valley as a community that was Raines’ support network as she grew to adulthood.

There will be an opening showing of the film “Tall in the Saddle” co-starring John Wayne on Friday, June 22, at the North Bend Theatre. The weekend festival will move to the Mount Si High School Performing Arts Complex on Saturday, June 34, for a 2 p.m. matinee showing of “Hail the Conquering Hero” followed by “Phantom Lady” at 7:30 p.m. A collection of Raines’ and other 1940s vintage memorabilia will be on view in the school’s commons.
