Postmaster: No plans to move Snoqualmie Post office

The bank next door may be long gone, and the public library across the street may have moved to Snoqualmie Ridge. But that doesn’t mean the U.S. Postal Service is leaving downtown Snoqualmie anytime soon.

Snoqualmie Postmaster Bernie Weinkauf, and Ernie Swanson, spokesman for the entire Seattle postal region, confirmed that the downtown post office isn’t going anywhere.

“There are no plans to relocate the Snoqualmie Post Office,” Swanson said Thursday, Sept. 6. “There are no plans to relocate to a place like the library, or to build a new post office.”

The current location, at 8264 Olmstead Lane just off River Street, is not a priority for replacement. Having been inaugurated during the Kennedy administration, the building has its problems. For starters, it can get crowded.

“It’s old,” Weinkauf said. “And it floods.”

But the existing building still has plenty of post office boxes. Only 1,100 of its 1,500 boxes are currently rented.

“What we have is not perfect, but space-wise, it’s adequate for our needs,” Swanson said.
