Chief Kanim announces fitness awards

The Chief Kanim physical education department announced students who ranked among the elite in the Presidential Fitness Challenge. The following students were tested in cardio-respiratory endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and speed. They scored high enough to earn the Presidential Fitness Award. Eighth-graders earning the award were Kyle Hansen-Kahn, Jake Handy, Sam Hunston and Blake Hepner. Seventh-graders earning the award were Andrew Herendeen, Jessica Richards, Chad Makela, Lindsey Garske, McKinna Little, Hamilton Bardsley, Traci Hall, Kyle Stevens, Joey Evans, Chad Billings, Obie Rivitt and Jordan Hope. Sixth-graders earning the award were Darrell Kinsman, Erica Stubbs, Marley Robbins, Max Rosentrettor, Meghan Travis, Chris Hindmarch, Megg Briggs, McKenzie Will, Taylor Fish, Abi Peterson, Brittany Blair, Adalei Wolf and Georgia Reynolds.      


Hawks defeat Tolt

The Chief Kanim Middle School eighth-grade varsity basketball team defeated a visiting Tolt team 53-43 recently. The Hawks held off a tough Mustang team by controlling the boards and using an effective press. Leading the effort were Jake Handy, who had 16 points, followed by Blake Hepner with 15. Sam Hunston added eight points, Curtis Beach had seven, Jake Tweten had six and Justin Poth had two. Defensively, Thomas Hunt had three rebounds, Eric Ward had two steals and Parker Griffin had two steals.


Chief Kanim blasts Tolt boys

The Chief Kanim seventh-grade boys’ varsity basketball team hosted the Tolt Mustangs recently and won 53-16. The Hawks used an aggressive defense and owned the boards in gaining their first victory of the season. Tyson Riley led the effort offensively with 12 points, followed by Joey Evans with 10, Chad Billings with eight, Zach Lindor with eight, Zach Brevik with four, Spencer Macewan with four, Brian Johnson with four, Mike Nelson with two and Alex Heibert with one. Defensively Heibert added two assists, Johnson had two steals and both Jordan Hope and Zach Kirchmeyer played a strong press.


Hawks fall to Beaver Lake

Despite a half-time lead the Chief Kanim Hawks’ seventh-grade varsity basketball team fell to the Bulldogs last week, 32-40. The Hawks started slowly in the third quarter, but managed to stay within striking distance of Beaver Lake. However, in the end the Bulldogs nailed their free-throws and put an end to the Hawks’ comeback. Joey Evans led the effort with 15 points and six rebounds, followed by Spencer Macewan with four points and seven steals.

Other offensive contributors were Chad Billings with four points, Alex Heibert with two points, Tyson Riley with two points and Zach Brevik with five points. Defensively Riley had four assists, Heibert had four rebounds, Brian Johnson had two rebounds, Mike Nelson had two rebounds, Zach Lindor had one steal and Zach Kirchmeyer had two rebounds.
