agles fly past Hawks
The Chief Kanim sixth-grade girls’ soccer White Hawks fell to the Snoqualmie Middle School sixth-grade team 5-2. The Hawks played excellent throughout the first half, controlling the game and maintaining a tie score of 2-2. The Eagles’ conditioning prevailed in the second half with SMS coming out on top. The Hawks were led by Krista Galloway’s tenacious defense, Elizabeth Escobar’s two goals and great mid-field play from Lauren Wood and Tasha Oney. Emma Healey and Sally Miller also played well for the Hawks.
Hawks defeat Tolt
The Chief Kanim Middle School eighth-grade varsity boys’ basketball team traveled to Tolt last week where they defeated the Thunderbirds 61-32. The Hawks owned the boards and ran their offense effectively.
Tanner Riley led the effort with 10 points and six assists. Lucas Zupan had 12 points and nine rebounds while teammate Eric Murphy had 14 points. Other players scoring were Rosco Castagno with seven, Aaron Moteului with four, Edgar Tarp with eight, Ryan Gillespie with two, Drew Handy with two and Josh Murphy with two.
Seventh-grade wins
The Chief Kanim Middle School seventh-grade varsity basketball team also traveled to Tolt last week where they won a barn-burner 39-34. The Hawks had trouble making their free-throws (10-for-26). Chief Kanim took control in the game’s last couple of minutes to preserve the win. Ian Ilgenfritz led the effort with 13 points and eight rebounds. Joe Farmer had seven points, Matt Bankston had five points, Nate Sinner had two points, Cooper Helm had eight points and Ryan Herman had five points.
Chief Kanim falls to Issaquah
Despite 15 points and seven rebounds from Ryan Herman, the Chief Kanim Middle School seventh-grade boys’ varsity basketball team fell to Issaquah 32-38. The Hawks played their hearts out with only five players at the game and, at times, only four on the court. In addition to Herman, Matt Bankston added 12 points and seven rebounds, Korbin Paulson had two points and four steals, Dan Scott had two points and 12 rebounds and Danny Wood had two points and five rebounds.
Hawks fall to Issaquah
Even with 24 points from Tanner Riley, the Chief Kanim eighth-grade boys’ basketball team fell to the Issaquah Panthers 59-82. The Hawks played a great first half but seemed to run out of gas in the second half as Issaquah raced out for victory. Lucas Zupan added 14 points and 18 rebounds, Aaron Moetului had nine points and 11 rebounds, Rosco Castagno had three points, Drew Handy had six points and Eric Murphy had four points.
JV Eagles win a close one
The eighth-grade junior varsity boys’ basketball team of Snoqualmie Middle School beat Chief Kanim recently in a very close game. The Eagles had an off night shooting, but showed true grit and strong character in the third and fourth quarters to come from behind and secure a 29-21 victory. The defense held the Hawks to only seven points combined in the third and fourth quarters.
The defensive efforts of the Eagles’ bench led the comeback. The hustle of Bryce McMichael, Collin Sprague and Jake Beck provided the spark the Eagles needed to get back in control of the game. Sam Evans was strong on both the offensive and defensive glass, as were McMichael and Chris Anderson. Kyle Braun again led the Eagles in scoring with 16 points and Evans chipped in seven.
SMS JV keeps rolling
The Snoqualmie Middle School junior varsity eighth-grade boys kept on rolling as they defeated Chief Kanim Middle School’s boys’ basketball team with a score of 50-21 recently. Ten of the 14 Eagles players scored, led by Kyle Braun’s 14 on seven of 11 shooting. Ahmad Korma, Chris Anderson and Matt Rodriguez chipped in with six each and Edwin Benson added five. The defense really was key in the game as the Eagles had an off night on offense, only shooting 34 percent from the field. The bench play was also excellent as 28 of the 51 points came from the Eagles’ bench. The Eagles are now 4-0 on the season.
JV Eagles start strong
The Snoqualmie Middle School Eagles’ eighth-grade junior varsity boys’ basketball team started the season with a bang, dominating in back-to-back wins over Chief Kanim and Tolt. In the win against CKMS, the Eagles shot 53 percent and won 51-35. Kyle Braun led a balanced scoring attack with 16 points. Guards Collin Sprague, Matt Prewett and Matt Rodriguez turned in solid efforts with 10, nine and eight points respectively. Jake Beck and Shawn Duncan were key performers on defense for the Eagles.
Against Tolt, the Eagles were again solid, winning 44-21. Kyle Braun pumped in 19 points, Collin Sprague added eight and Sam Evans chipped in six points. Solid rebounding was also key as Evans led the way and got good help from Chris Anderson and Ahmad Korma inside. The Eagles are now 2-0 on the season.
