Body found in Fall City

A 67-year-old man was found dead in an alley behind the

Model Garage in Fall City on Jan. 3.

Police said there weren’t any signs of foul play, but the body was

being autopsied.

Employees from the Model Garage returned to work that

Monday morning to discover that a nearby resident had found the body.

Property tax surprises Snoqualmie

When the King County Assessor released this year’s property tax

increase figures, many Snoqualmie residents were surprised to find that

the city’s property valuations had risen 47.5 percent over 1999.

Assessor Scott Noble said the rise was the result of $56 million in

new construction on Snoqualmie Ridge. Although the city’s assessed

valuation rose from $194 million last year to $313 million this year, Noble said

residents need not worry.

The levy rate for Snoqualmie declined from $14.30 per thousand

in assessed valuation to $13.38 this year. Therefore, the average taxpayer

will not see a 47.5 percent increase in their tax bill.

Children’s Services to receive new director

Seattle native John Stout was selected as the new executive

director of Children’s Services of Sno-Valley.

Stout returned to the Valley after living in the Midwest and recently

was involved with the Children’s Museum of Spokane. He replaced longtime

director Joan Sharp.

Police services cut

When Carnation voters rejected the $102,000 police services levy

last year, they didn’t just cut money out of the budget — they eliminated one

officer from the roster.

Through its contract with the King County Sheriff’s Office, the

Carnation Police Department was forced to reduce its services from three

deputies and a half-time chief to two officers and a part-time chief.

The Carnation City Council had to look at alternative levels of police

coverage after the levy failed twice last fall by a fraction of a percent.
