Gravel company to make pitch

SNOQUALMIE — Glacier Northwest, owner of Snoqualmie Sand

and Gravel, will be giving an informational presentation to the Snoqualmie

City Council from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 28 at city hall.

The presentation will explain Glacier Northwest’s plans of adding

hard rock blasting to its operations, expanding the mining hours and

extending the project’s life to approximately 2050.

“(The information) will give residents the ability to understand

what the scope of the project is that we’re asking for and also be able to ask

questions about how it impacts their lives,” said Glacier Northwest

representative Ron Summers.

Residents are welcome to attend the meeting, and public comment

is allowed, but will be limited to two minutes per speaker. Comments

will be cut off at 7 p.m., when the regular City Council meeting begins.

Those who speak should address their comments to Glacier Northwest

representatives, as the operation is under King County, instead of city, jurisdiction.

In addition, King County Councilmember David Irons will

be listening to concerns on the mining project, as well as other Valley

topics, at an upcoming open house.

“I’m very concerned with moving from the current open pit design

to hard rock mining, with blasting this close to residents and the city

of Snoqualmie,” Irons said. “We certainly realize people are

concerned about (Glacier’s proposal) and hope it will be a good opportunity.”

Irons or his staff members will be available from 1 to 7 p.m. Aug. 24,

8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 25 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 26 at

the Snoqualmie City Hall, 38767 S.E. River Street.
